In 1989 Barbara Robertson called us and wanted to know if we could deliver the Citrus County Commissioners Agendas? We said yes, “We certainly could!”, and for nearly 20 years (it will be twenty in 2009) we have delivered the Commissioners Agendas. The Commissioners have change but the deliver service has not. Being much like the Postman, we delivered, through the oppressive heat of the summer and during the torrential rainfall of the hurricane seasons. We delivered from one end of the county to the other. From Inverness to Hernando, down route 200, back through Beverly Hills, to Homosassa, down roads that had nerve being called roads (streets such as Ottawa), we were there. Even when we got called unexpectedly, for special deliveries, we were there. We had not increased our prices in 14 years! But in 2003 it became apparent that we could no longer keep our below industry pricing and we had to increase our rates to the standards of the day. That was four years ago. After all those years, did we ever get any acknowledgement of a job well done, no, not ever, in fact, when we tried to get the Commissioners to write us a letter of recommendation for all the years of service, they said that they didn’t even know who we were! This is after being at each Commissioner’s home and having spoken to each personally over the years!
After all that we still continued to deliver the Commissioner’s Agendas. But now, out of the blue, apparently being political motivated, we get the following letter from a newly promoted clerk at the government office in Lecanto.
Did they offer us the opportunity to match the “supposedly” lower price for delivery? “NO!”
A great way to treat a family business that has been operating in the county for nearly thirty years! There is a lot of underhanded, sly by night, things occurring in the county and the citizens should awaken to the truth. This is what typifies too much growth, an abandonment of principles instilled within a small community of family. All our commissioners want is growth and more growth, and this is what can be expected. History reveals the outcome, just look at ST Pete and Tampa, exorbitant prices in housing and an exodus from these communities. And the communities are left with no tax base, families’ gone, empty malls, and vacant businesses. EXPECT THIS FROM OUR LEADERSHIP.
